Pier Luigi Nervi

Pier Luigi Nervi (1891–1979) was an Italian structural engineer and architect whose mastery of reinforced concrete produced some of the 20th century's most elegant structures. His works — including the Palazzetto dello Sport (1957) in Rome, the Tour de la Bourse in Montreal, and the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris (with Breuer and Zehrfuss) — demonstrate that structural engineering at its highest level is indistinguishable from art.
