About Ralf Schüler

Ralf Schüler (1930–2011) was a German architect who, in partnership with Ursulina Schüler-Witte, created two of West Berlin's most distinctive buildings. The catalogue holds 2 of their joint works, both in Berlin.

The Internationales Congress Centrum (1979) is a massive aluminium-clad megastructure — a High-tech and Futurist building that resembles a grounded spaceship, with a capacity of 20,000. The Bierpinsel (1976) in Steglitz rises on a single concrete stem like a mushroom or tree, housing restaurants and a bar in its cantilevered upper volume. Both buildings embody a Futurist confidence in technology and spectacle that defined 1970s West Berlin.
